Backgammon glossary · T

Tavli

Greek backgammon — the session triplet of Portes, Plakoto and Fevga.

How it works in play

Tavli is the Greek name for the game and for a session of three games played in turn: Portes, backgammon without the cube; Plakoto, where blots are pinned; and Fevga, where nothing is hit.

  • Plakoto — Greek variant where blots are pinned (trapped in place) rather than hit.
  • Fevga — Greek/Turkish variant with no hitting, where a single checker holds a point.
  • Tavla — The Turkish name and tradition of backgammon, played without the doubling cube.
