Bar point

The 7-point. After the 5-point, the second-most-valuable offensive point.

How it works in play

Your bar point, the 7-point, sits just outside your home board, next to the bar. Made, it blocks the 6s of opposing checkers on your 1-point and joins your 6- and 8-points into a three-point block. That is why the opening 6-1 makes it at once with 13/7 8/7.

  • Point — One of the board’s 24 triangles. "To point on" a checker: make the point by landing two checkers on its blot.
  • Prime — Consecutive made points (a 4-prime, 5-prime, or the impassable 6-prime).
  • Golden point — The 5-point (offense) — or the 20-point as the defensive "golden anchor."
  • Block — A made point that prevents the opponent’s checkers from landing on it.
  • Midpoint — The 13-point.
