How it works in play

eXtreme Gammon is a commercial neural-network analyzer. With GNU Backgammon it is one of the engines most serious players use to review games and roll out positions, and many published PR figures are XG’s.

• PR — Performance rating: average equity error per decision versus a neural-net analyzer. Lower is better; world class is under 2.
• Rollout — A computer simulation playing thousands of games from a position to estimate its equity.
• Equity — The expected value of a position, typically expressed in cube units or points.
