Slot

Deliberately leave a blot on a key point, intending to cover it next turn.

How it works in play

Slotting puts a single checker on a point you want, accepting the risk of being hit for the chance to cover it next turn. The classic slot is on your 5-point: with an opening 2-1, 13/11 6/5 slots it, and the 2-1 page shows how close it runs to the split.

  • Cover — To add a second checker to a blot of your own, making the point.
  • Blot — A point occupied by exactly one checker — vulnerable to being hit.
  • Golden point — The 5-point (offense) — or the 20-point as the defensive "golden anchor."
  • Builder — A spare checker positioned to help make a new point next roll.
