Underbuilt

A position lacking the builders needed to make new points.

How it works in play

An underbuilt position has too few spare checkers near the points it wants to make, so it can’t attack or build a prime when it needs to. Bringing builders into play early, instead of leaving them stacked, is the cure.

  • Builder — A spare checker positioned to help make a new point next roll.
  • Stack — Multiple checkers piled on one point; tall stacks waste material.
  • Diversification — Spreading your good numbers so that many different rolls do useful work.
  • Prime — Consecutive made points (a 4-prime, 5-prime, or the impassable 6-prime).
