Stack

Multiple checkers piled on one point; tall stacks waste material.

How it works in play

Piling many checkers on one point wastes them: they block nothing extra and leave you fewer good ways to play your rolls. Beginners often stack the 6- and 8-points ‘for safety’; spreading those spares out as builders is usually better.

  • Builder — A spare checker positioned to help make a new point next roll.
  • Diversification — Spreading your good numbers so that many different rolls do useful work.
  • Wastage — Pips lost to inefficiency in the bear-off — rolling a 6 when only a 1 was needed.
  • Underbuilt — A position lacking the builders needed to make new points.
