Diversification

Spreading your good numbers so that many different rolls do useful work.

How it works in play

Diversification means placing your builders and blots so that different numbers do useful work next turn: a 2, a 4 and a 5 might each make a point, instead of all of them needing a 3. It is the mirror image of duplication, which you aim at the opponent.

  • Duplication — Arranging your position so the opponent needs the same number for two different jobs — fewer rolls help them.
  • Builder — A spare checker positioned to help make a new point next roll.
  • Slot — Deliberately leave a blot on a key point, intending to cover it next turn.
  • Underbuilt — A position lacking the builders needed to make new points.
