Closeout

All six home-board points made while the opponent sits on the bar — they cannot enter until a point opens.

How it works in play

With all six home-board points made and an opponent checker on the bar, the opponent cannot enter: every roll is wasted until you open a point. A closeout, above all with two checkers caught, wins a gammon often, which is what a blitz is aiming for.

  • Blitz — Aggressive attacking strategy aiming to close the opponent out on the bar.
  • Prime — Consecutive made points (a 4-prime, 5-prime, or the impassable 6-prime).
  • Bar — The center ridge of the board; where hit checkers go.
  • Home board — A player’s inner table — points 1–6 from their perspective.
  • Gammon — Winning before the opponent bears off any checker. Worth 2× the cube value.
