Cube

Short for "doubling cube."

How it works in play

‘Cube’ is table talk for the doubling cube, the six-sided die marked 2 to 64 that keeps track of the stakes. ‘Turning the cube’ means offering a double, and ‘owning the cube’ means you are the only player who may offer the next one.

  • Doubling cube — The six-sided cube marked 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64 used to raise the stakes.
  • Double — An offer to double the stakes via the doubling cube, made before rolling.
  • Redouble — A subsequent double by the current cube owner.
  • Live cube — A cube that can still be re-doubled, as opposed to a "dead cube."
  • Cube life — The remaining value of cube ownership; quantified by Janowski’s live-cube calculations.
